The Flossmoor Planned Parenthood in Flossmoor, Illinois did not call 911 when a woman suffered a medical emergency at the facility on Feb. 3.
Dialing 911 is the fastest way to get help during emergency situations, but Flossmoor Planned Parenthood opted to call a private ambulance instead. The facility was apparently trying to avoid creating a public record that might reveal the severity of the woman’s condition and alert the public to the dangers of abortion.
Pro-life news website Life Site reported the incident and provided a video showing the slow response to the emergency.
“When abortion businesses like Planned Parenthood bypass the 911 system, they are doing it to cover up the fact that they hurt someone during an abortion. Any concern for the life or health of the woman involved is secondary. Planned Parenthood wants the public to think that abortions are the safest thing in the world, but incidents like this completely expose that lie,” said Operation Rescue President Troy Newman.
Operation Rescue has now documented six medical emergencies that required ambulance transport from Flossmoor Planned Parenthood since the facility opened in 2018.
The most recent prior incident happened on Oct. 9 last year. That time, the facility called 911 twice.
According to 911 records provided to Operation Rescue by the Pro-Life Action League, the 25-year-old woman was sedated and unconscious during the ordeal.
The first call, placed at 3:06 p.m., indicated that the woman was “bleeding out” and needed an ambulance. The 911 operator stopped asking all the usual questions and quickly dispatched an ambulance to the scene.
The 911 operator instructed the Planned Parenthood worker: “If anything changes with her condition, if she stops breathing, I need you to call me back and let me know what’s happening.”
Moments after the first call, a second Planned Parenthood worker placed another call to 911. The caller indicated that the patient was still bleeding, but was told that an ambulance was already on the way.
The woman was transported to Advocate South Suburban Hospital in Hazel Crest, Illinois, which is three miles north of the Flossmoor Planned Parenthood.
“Based on the recordings of the emergency calls from Planned Parenthood, this was a very serious medical emergency. The woman was literally bleeding to death, and the second caller voiced a sense of urgency that this woman was in real trouble,” Newman noted at that time.
“This Planned Parenthood was said to be a state-of-the-art abortion facility when it was built a couple of years ago, yet they can’t seem to keep their abortion clients out of the emergency room. This shows yet again that abortion is not safe and carries more risks than Planned Parenthood wants women to believe. Women risk their health and even their lives when they walk through the doors of an abortion facility.” (Related: Planned Parenthood is now being REWARDED with cash for killing babies.)
The other four emergencies at the Flossmoor Planned Parenthood happened on May 8, 2020, when a woman suffered possible uterine perforation during abortion; May 7, 2020, when a video taken by a pro-life activist showed a female getting wheeled out of Planned Parenthood on a gurney and loaded into a private ambulance; November 12, 2019, when an abortion patient suffered hemorrhage; and December 14, 2018, when a 34-year-old woman suffered hemorrhage after an abortion.
Medical emergencies during and after abortion were not uncommon. In 2020, Operation Rescue documented 67 medical emergencies at abortion facilities nationwide – 30 of which took place at Planned Parenthood facilities.
Abortion could lead to significant complications such as heavy bleeding, infection and damage to organs. Side effects might also occur with induced abortion, including abdominal pain and cramping, nausea, vomiting and diarrhea.
There is evidence that abortion is associated with a decrease in both emotional and physical health. These negative emotions could appear within days or after many years. Possible symptoms include eating disorders, relationship problems, guilt, depression, flashbacks of abortion, suicidal thoughts, sexual dysfunction and alcohol and drug abuse.
